The Davis Family has a long and proud heritage. The
Davis', Huntsinger, Simpson & Wells Families all came together
in one family, the W. (Warren) Elmo Davis Family, when Grace
Helen Simpson wedded Elmo Davis. Patriarch of the
Davis Family was John H. Davis, who's original homestead is
still preserved north of Salina (South of Bennington), KS as
historical building by the Evans Grain Company of Salina, KS.
Thanks Evans!
John's sons and there were many (exact count not known but
pictures show 4 daughter and 8 sons {but the younger son's
were not shown in the photos} but undocumented counts are
12 to 18 children); expanded the family, with several joining
the "89" run on Oklahoma, to gain homesteads. Jacob H.
Davis was one of them and he and family settled in the Cushing,
OK area, where W. Elmo was raised. Jacob married Eva
Huntsinger, who came to the school house adjascent to the John
Davis homestead, as a school marm.
Grace Simpson was the second child, first daughter of Clarence V. Simpson and
Carrie Sipmpson Wells. Grace lived to the age of 95 and recently passed on
to her eternal reward on 8 March 2007.
Elmo & Grace had two children Jenell G. Hughes (married to Charles
Hughes) and Nyle E. Davis. Jenell had 4 children, Bryon,
Nathan, Jeanette & Rodney. Nyle had 7 children, Ron, Cereice, Shawn,
Summit, Jay, Ryan & Sarah.
We will be adding a full MySQL database to this site with forms etc.,
later so you can sumbit your Davis Family tree or contributions
later. As we add to this site, we understand the need for
clarification of historical facts. An example is:
John H. Davis' father was Samuel Henry or Henry Samuel who elders said
was a circuit riding Methodist preacher and settled somewhere in
Ohio. However examination of photographs recently obtained
have photographer marks from Elkhart, IN. Therefore
investigation into Davis' located or originating in the Elkhart area
is needed to gather further Davis background information.
